With our recent post on the affect of pesticides on produce, we wanted to share with you and easy at-home veggie wash. Don’t pay good money for those expensive veggie washes sold in the stores. Making your own is super easy and super cheap.
Here’s how you can make your own vegetable wash.
Mix 1 cup of water with 1 cup of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of salt and put it in a spray bottle. Spray your fruits and vegetables with the mixture and then scrub gently with a brush you use just for produce. Then rinse with water.
For fruits with soft skins or nooks and crannies where dirt, bugs and pesticides can hide (artichokes, broccoli, etc) fill a bowl with the mixture described above and let the vegetables soak for a few minutes. Then rinse with water. Just don’t soak mushrooms because they absorb liquids when soaking.
